Mike Dean has been appointed the referee for Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Southampton, per the Premier League’s website, which may be bad news for Jose Mourinho’s men.
The club, in that time period, have won just twice.
Those wins came against Cardiff City in October 2018 and Wolves the following month.
Since then, they have lost four times, to Arsenal, Manchester United, Burnley and Newcastle United.
Dean, meanwhile, has been in charge of two Southampton games in the same period, with both ending in draws.
The Saints played out a 1-1 stalemate with Watford in April of this year and then a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in August.
Those results, surely, benefit Hasenhuttl’s men far more than Mourinho’s.
Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?
Of course, games are not exactly decided on the appointment of the man in black.
But Spurs are in poor form – they have won just once in their last three games – and have been struggling on the road.
Indeed, since the beginning of the season, they have played 10 games away from home and have won just twice, against West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion, and conceded 19 goals.
They have not kept a single clean sheet on the road in that time.
But the appointment of Dean will surely be seen as another potential roadblock for the players and the team to overcome.
They will be hoping to start 2020 with a bang, so they will have to find a way around it.
Meanwhile, one Spurs man has promised he has more to give the club.
