Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has claimed that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is a better player than Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, per talkSPORT.

What’s he said?

Vardy is currently in irresistible scoring form, netting 16 goals in 16 games in the top-flight and leading the Golden Boot race.

Kane, meanwhile, has nine goals in 15 appearances in the league and is already lagging behind his countryman.

And Parker believes that the Foxes ace is a better forward than the England captain.

Asked if he preferred Vardy to Kane, he replied: “I do.

“I would rather play with Jamie Vardy in my team than Harry Kane, because I know what I’m getting week-in, week-out.

“When I watch people jog around and not even bother to try and make a tackle and come off the pitch with clean shorts… I’m sorry, call me a dinosaur, but I would rather just play with Vardy.

“Put him up there and you’ll know he’ll make a bad ball into a good ball.

“I’d much rather play against Harry Kane, all day long.

“I’d fancy my chances; every time I’ve seen people try to beat him up, he just accepts it.”

Nonsense argument

A pundit can say that one player is better than another because that’s ultimately their job, to pass opinions and judgement on football.

But one has to wonder what exactly Parker is talking about here when one takes into account the statistics.

After all, Vardy has outscored Kane in the league on one previous occasion: in 2018/19, when he netted 18 goals and the Spurs ace had 17. The difference? Vardy played in six more games.

This season, of course, he is on fire and nobody can take that away from him.

But Kane has routinely outscored the 32-year-old, who is surely approaching the twilight of his career.

The 26-year-old even has two Premier League Golden Boots to his name and has broken the 30-mark for goals in the top-flight too.

Parker can prefer Vardy but the stats prove that it is Kane who is the superior striker.

Meanwhile, Mourinho can win over his doubters with his treatment of one Spurs player.
