CIES are a research group from Switzerland and have created an algorithm that determines transfer market values, based on metrics that take into account player age, performances, contract length and recent transfer fees.
And according to their latest reports, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is the Premier League’s most valuable player at a whopping £87milllion – marginally trumping the world-record sum Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale three summers ago.
That sees the England international rank fifth throughout world football, only bettered by La Liga foursome Lionel Messi, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann.
He’s also one place above Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, the 20-year-old who cost the Old Trafford outfit a whopping £36million last summer.
The 22-year-old’s enormous value is likely due to his long-term contract, tied down at White Hart Lane until 2020, and him finishing last season as the Premier League’s top scorer with 25 goals.
