Tis the season for transfer rumours, and CalcioMercato released an interesting nugget of information the other day, revealing that Spurs have bid €23m (£19.3m) for Atalanta’s 19-year-old sensation Franck Kessie.
Although the truth behind this is as of yet relatively unclear, one thing we do know is that Kessie has been earning rave reviews for his performances in Serie A this season. The Ivorian, who has already been likened to Yaya Toure, is an all-action central midfielder, as is reflected in his stats for the campaign so far…
Kessie has been very involved for La Dea, helping them to their current sixth-place slot in the Italian top tier. An average pass completion of 83% is notable given that he’s often asked to drive forward and link with his attacking team-mates, while a return of five goals is really impressive for his age.
Although his one assist may appear a meagre return, Kessie has made just shy of one key pass-a-game in the black and blue shirt this term.
The teenager appears a good option for Mauricio Pochettino, who is known to favour athleticism in his central midfield players. Towards the back end of last term, and the start of this, the loss of Mousa Dembele to suspension was noticed and Kessie could be a good stand-in for the Belgium international.
