Darren Bent believes Tottenham Hotspur should do all they can to sign Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona this month, per Football Insider.

What's he said?

The Daily Telegraph claimed earlier this week that Spurs had been offered the chance to sign the France international this month.

Mourinho is said to be confident that he will secure a new centre-back this month as he bids to bolster his squad and Bent believes that a move for Umtiti would be something of a no-brainer.

He said: “If they can get Umtiti, wow.

“He’s big, strong, powerful and good on the ball, and he’s someone Mourinho can trust.

“He’s played in big games, won big competitions, obviously the World Cup which is a big one.

“If he’s been offered, that means he may not cost too much, so I’d snap their hand off.”

A statement

Bringing Umtiti in would, indeed, be a statement signing.

This is a player who has played at the very highest level and has been a major part of an impressive Barca team, making over 100 appearances for the club.

His injury problems – as previously detailed – are something of a concern but when he is fit, this remains an imposing defender who could have an instant impact at the club.

Of course, it all comes down to both the potential fee involved and the willingness of the 26-year-old to swap Catalonia for north London.

If he is willing to do it, though, this would be a huge deal for the club, as Bent rightly suggests.
