Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to sell Cameron Carter-Vickers in this transfer window, per Football Insider.

What’s the word?

The central defender began the season on loan at Stoke City but that deal has been cut short, and the club are hopeful that he will leave on a permanent basis.

The report states that Spurs want £4m for the 22-year-old, who has made just four senior appearances for the club.

His last appearance for the north London club came in January 2017 in a 4-3 FA Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers.

A number of clubs are said to be interested in signing the defender, including Middlesbrough, though a number of his suitors would prefer a loan-to-buy deal.

Needs a chance

Carter-Vickers has been sent from pillar to post during his time at Spurs.

Since making his debut in 2016, he has gone on loan to Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City and, most recently, Stoke.

Now is the time for him to leave on a permanent basis and finally strike out on his own.

Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?

His time at Spurs has not led to any legitimate opportunities; he ought to be delighted with the club’s plan to move him on.

Of course, he needs to find the right move and he does have Championship experience; Middlesbrough could well be the perfect destination for him.

He will be hoping a deal can be struck prior to this week’s transfer deadline.
