Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the sale of Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan.

What’s the word?

The Denmark international has called time on a seven-year spell at Spurs to join the Italian giants.

Neither club have disclosed the fee involved in the deal but he has signed a contract at the San Siro until 2024.

He leaves Spurs having spent the summer attempting to depart the club, having outlined the need for a new challenge following the Champions League final.

At the time, sources said that he was hoping for a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid but has now settled for Serie A, with Inter willing to pay a fee to sign a player whose contract would have expired in the summer.

He made 305 appearances for the club in total, scoring 69 goals and registering 89 assists, though he only managed to net three and provide a further three this season.

Draw a line under it

A saga comes to an end.

Eriksen has been making noises to leave Spurs since the summer and, finally, it has happened.

One has to imagine that chairman Daniel Levy will be delighted with the way negotiations have gone; he has received a fee – whatever it may be – for a player who could legitimately have left on a free transfer in the summer.

Spurs have also confirmed the deal to sign Giovani Lo Celso on a permanent deal from Real Betis and are close to signing Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven after tabling a £21m bid for the Netherlands international.

They are already looking to the future and to life after the Dane; an adjustment period will, of course, be needed but this is a step forward for Spurs, who can now draw a line under the Eriksen saga and start to move on.

Meanwhile, another Spurs man could leave this month!
