Jose Mourinho is interested in the possibility of Tottenham Hotspur signing Edinson Cavani from PSG this month, per AS via Sport Witness.

What’s the word?

Cavani has asked to leave PSG, sporting director Leonardo confirmed after their French Cup clash with Lorient, per BBC Sport.

The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?

Atletico Madrid have made an approach for the Uruguay international but AS now claims that Spurs could move for the 32-year-old.

Indeed, they state that Mourinho would see the potential move with “good eyes”, though Chelsea are also interested.

The perfect option

Spurs are seriously short up front.

Harry Kane’s injury has robbed them of an out-and-out senior forward, with teenager Troy Parrott the only other option available to Mourinho. As a result, he has been forced to play one of Lucas Moura or Son Heung-Min through the middle.

A move for Cavani, then, would secure a proven goalscorer who can be the ideal replacement, and later partner, for Kane.

He has scored 198 goals in 293 games for PSG and, while his salary may well be a stumbling block – he is playing for one of the richest clubs in the world – he would be a marquee addition for a side in desperate need of some help in the final third.

Spurs have scored just once in the league this calendar year and without Kane, look like a side in trouble. If a deal can be done, Cavani would be the perfect addition to Mourinho’s squad.

With the player wanting to leave, there is unlikely to be a better option to replace Kane this January.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans are split on the possibility of signing a mega star!
