Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Islam Slimani over a possible move for the Leicester City striker, RMC Sport reports.

What’s the word?

Spurs are attempting to sign cover for the injured Harry Kane this month.

Sources have confirmed to Football FanCast that a number of strikers have been considered as possible acquisitions, including AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek and Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose.

But the new report claims that Spurs and Manchester United have both enquired about the 31-year-old, who is on loan in France from the Foxes.

Thus far this season, Slimani has scored seven goals and registered seven assists in 13 Ligue 1 outings.

Underwhelming

This wouldn’t be the signing that Spurs fans are necessarily hoping for.

While they do need to find some help for Kane, Slimani has previously shown that he has struggled in the Premier League.

He has never scored more than seven goals in one English top-flight campaign and those goals came in 2016/17.

Since then, in the English top-flight, he has scored once in 12 outings.

It explains why Leicester were willing to let him move to Monaco on loan and speaks to the desperation that may be seeping into Spurs’ chase for a forward.

With Piatek – who has scored 16 goals in 40 games for Milan – and Willian Jose – who has netted 53 in 130 for Sociedad – still options, Slimani is an underwhelming choice.

Meanwhile, Spurs could sell one man for just £4m this month!
