Southampton are confident of signing Kyle Walker-Peters from Tottenham Hotspur before the January transfer deadline, per The Daily Mail.

What’s the word?

The right-back has not played in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho and is now poised to leave the club.

Southampton, the report states, are set to take Walker-Peters on loan, though talks are continuing over a potential obligation to buy at a cost of £12m.

Both West Ham United and Crystal Palace also showed interest in signing the full-back, though he is now set to move to St Mary’s instead.

The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?

A victim

Walker-Peters has not at all been helped by the change of manager in north London.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, he started the first three games of the season and had 10 outings in all competitions last term.

He has not really been given anything approaching a chance under Mourinho bar the Champions League dead rubber against Bayern Munich, in which he played 90 minutes.

That could well have been to put him in the shop window and, by all accounts, it worked, with three clubs chasing his signature.

It remains to be seen if he will break into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side at St Mary’s but a clean break feels like it is needed in this case.

Walker-Peters will be out to prove Mourinho wrong.
