Celtic want to re-sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama, per The Daily Mirror.

What’s the word?

Spurs have two demands if they are to allow Wanyama to leave, be it on a permanent basis or loan.

If they are to sell the Kenya international, they want to receive an £8m fee, while any club looking to take the midfielder on loan will have to pay £1.5m, along with an obligation to buy him in the summer.

Celtic, who Wanyama played for between 2011 and 2013, are keen to take him back to Scotland, while Lazio and Galatasaray are also said to be interested.

Pricing him out

The report states that Wanyama's hopes of leaving Spurs are fading because of the club's demands and that feels like a short-sighted move.

Wanyama has barely featured for Spurs this season, playing just 23 minutes in the Premier League. Even in 2018/19, he made just four starts in the top-flight.

He is surplus to requirements but chairman Daniel Levy’s desire to get the best deal possible for the 28-year-old could limit his options.

Ultimately, Spurs would be better off removing a fringe player from the wage bill - Wanyama earns £70k per-week at Tottenham - than haggling over someone whose value is only going to decrease if they don't sell before the deadline.

Wanyama's contract will have just twelve months left in the summer - clubs are even less likely to match Levy's demands at that point.
