The 10 things Tottenham must do this January transfer window

It might be a new year but for Tottenham Hotspur, the January transfer window brings with it the same old story.

Fervent transfer speculation, ongoing transfer sagas and a seemingly perpetual need to plug damage inflicted from previous windows, the remit for the weeks ahead feels little more than standard procedure if you’re a Spurs fan.

Yet while supporters are used to their fair share of travails in the transfer market, given the progress the side have made since the troublesome summer that overshadowed their season’s start, there’s a real feeling that if the club play their cards right, they can really push on to seize that Champions League spot which all are striving so hard to achieve.

A year on from last season’s disastrous spot of January business, some will certainly be dismayed to hear Andre Villas-Boas’ sentiments that little needs to be done in the way of New Year shopping. But with a continued need for a creative midfielder, a strike force that boasts just the one recognised striker following Emmanuel Adebayor’s decision to go to the African Cup of Nations and a whole batch of squad players that need moving on, the Portuguese’s poker face isn’t fooling anyone.
