Tottenham have the task of facing Manchester City in the Champions League next week and although Spurs aren’t favourites for this game they should be confident as their star man will likely be at his best.
Harry Kane’s isn’t one of the best strikers in the world because he is blessed with incredible physical attributes- the Tottenham talisman’s strengths lie mostly is in his mind and he is never more fired up than when he is chasing down an accolade, or the right to be top scorer.
Kane has proven throughout his career that he is obsessed with winning Golden Boot awards, even going as far as to swear on his daughter’s life that he got a touch on a Christian Eriksen free-kick against Stoke last season.
He’s been the top goalscorer in the Premier League twice, and last summer he famously won the Golden Boot at the World Cup, becoming the first Englishman to do so since Gary Lineker in 1986.
The only major Golden Boot award Kane is missing from his collection is the Champions League edition. The Spurs striker trails Lionel Messi by only three goals headed into the next round of fixtures, a player who only last summer Kane spoke assertively about matching as one of the world’s best.
The England captain has proven time and time again that he is obsessed with winning these individual accolades and his performances step up when things aren’t going in his favour.
Kane trailed Romelu Lukaku by two goals with just two games to go in the race for the Golden Boot in the 2016/17 season before he banged in seven in his last two games to leapfrog the Belgian.
The 25-year-old also upped his game at the end of last season as he chased Mo Salah, netting five goals in his last five games, but ultimately fell short of the Liverpool star’s tally.
Pep Guardiola’s side have to be worried as they will be coming up against Kane at his most motivated – the striker turns into a different animal when he is chasing down the right to be top scorer. Despite City having an incredible backline, it may not be enough to stop Kane running riot when the sides face off.
