Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in the Premier League this season but have lost one game in the Champions League; a 2-1 defeat 'at home' against Monaco.

The reason the inverted commas surround the 'at home' is because Spurs are playing their home Champions League matches at Wembley this season rather than White Hart Lane, due to the changes being made to the stadium.

Whether or not that had anything to do with the defeat is hard to say, but after Wednesday night we might have a better reason to lament the temporary move to Wembley - or claim the Monaco defeat was a minor blip.

Either way, the Lilywhites face tough opposition in Leverkusen, who simply couldn't break down Spurs in the reverse clash a fortnight ago - which gave Mauricio Pochettino's boys a priceless point in a 0-0 draw.

With "home" advantage though, Spurs will hope to steal a march on their group rivals. With domestic and continental obligations to balance out, however, it's imperative Pochettino gets his starting XI exactly right...

GK: Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris is one of Tottenham's best players. Week in, week out, he makes unbelievable saves and they can can thank Pochettino that the Frenchman chose to stay during the summer.

Vorm is a capable deputy for Lloris, but the Frencham is expected to start here.

Trippier is Spurs' second choice right-back but still has a lot to offer the team. Competent defensively but also blessed with a testing delivery, it's worth giving Kyle Walker a rest and him a run-out.

Always looks a better player when alongside Toby Alderweireld but Vertonghen has performed admirably in his absence and is one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

CB: Eric Dier

Dier normally plays in midfield but he's played very well at centre-back in Alderweireld's absence. He'll need to work hard to keep Bayer Leverkusen's Javier Hernandez at bay again.

LB: Ben Davies

Ben Davies

Like Walker, Spurs' first choice left back Danny Rose could do with a rest. Wednesday's game represents a chance to give Davies a run out and in a similar vein to Trippier, he's extremely competent even though he's not currently Pochettino's preferred choice.

A marvellous signing since arriving at Spurs this summer, Victor Wanyama is strong and agile but a very able and technical footballer, too.

He's added a new dynamic to Tottenham's midfield has played a pivotal role in their fantastic defensive record.

Dembele didn't flourish originally at Spurs but has blossomed under Mauricio Pochettino in the past 18 months and is arguably one of their most important players - as shown by how much they missed him in the last four games of last season.

RM: Georges Kevin N'koudou

Signed this summer from Marseille in a very protracted manner, N'koudou will hope to break through to the first team soon.

He's got some minutes under his belt already and this is a good opportunity to see if he can help Spurs progress in the auxiliary competitions this season.

CAM: Dele Alli

Dele Alli

Alli has shone since he burst onto the Premier League scene last season and is one of the first names on Spurs team sheet. With Harry Kane still sidelined, Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to the England international to pick up the goalscoring mantle.

 LM: Christian Eriksen

The Dane sometimes goes missing in matches but has undoubted amounts of quality and can light up a game with a magical dead ball delivery or piece of skill.

Wednesday should be a technical game that suits Eriksen's strengths.

The Dutchman has struggled to score goals since joining Spurs this summer, netting only twice and both being penalties. But good buildup play should see him keep his place in the team and hopefully help give Spurs three points.
