Earn the chance to dine upon Europe’s most prestigious table and suddenly a whole new calibre of player will become available to the Lilywhites. Fail to do so and as well as having to look at more modest transfer targets, they may well end up looking over the shoulder for the services of some of their own.
But should Andre Villas-Boas really look to make a statement this summer and try to add genuine quality to both positions that need strengthening, as well as those that require competition for places, the odds are that Daniel Levy is going to have to authorise a fair amount of funds for the Portuguese this summer.
Yet within this top ten, while some players might require Levy to dig painfully deep into his pockets, not all of them come with a hefty price tag. If the club really wish to make a statement of intent this summer, they could do worse than looking at a few of these boys this summer.
