Espen Baardsen

Not the worst Premier League goalkeeper by any stretch of the imagination, but unfortunately someone had to go in between the sticks of this Spurs XI and Espen Baardsen is that man.

Signed from the world-renowned talent factory that was the San Francisco United All Blacks in 1996, the Norwegian international goalkeeper (who consequently had never lived in Norway at any point in his life) made 23 appearances for the Lilywhites in four years at White Hart Lane.

Despite being barely out of his 20’s, Baardsen hardly showed David de Gea like reflexes to compensate for his lack of experience and the fact he was unable to oust the spectacular mediocrity of Ian Walker perhaps speaks volumes.

Having retired at only 25, Baardsen now works for a London based asset-management company, which suggests that his heart probably wasn’t ever in the beautiful game.
