Ahead of England’s international friendly against Lithuania this Friday, FootballFanCast.com asked its audience whether they thought Tottenham strike sensation Harry Kane should start for Roy Hodgson’s men.
And the results were pretty conclusive, with a huge 72% of 13,052 fans revealing they want the 21-year-old to start on Friday. So, does this officially make Harry Kane the people’s choice?
14 per cent aren’t convinced and would seemingly prefer to see Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney ahead of him – though Sturridge’s latest injury will have certainly boosted Kane’s chances.
Surprisingly, six per cent of fans don’t believe he should’ve had a call up at all, although they’re most likely the Arsenal and West Ham fans who took part in the poll.
Harry Kane’s emergence as English football’s saviour has even surprised those that knew what he was truly capable of before he popped up and banged in 19 Premier League goals for Spurs.
Such a return has seen him called up for his country – no surprise there – and labelled England’s answer to years of mediocrity and disappointment.
And that’s before he’s even put on the sacred Three Lions shirt. Much like Wayne Rooney in 2003, a whole nation’s expectations rest on Harry’s shoulders.
Can he handle the pressure? Or will he buckle and ultimately become a one season wonder like Francis Jeffers?
Either way, it’s pretty clear he’s already won the hearts of even the most pessimistic of Three Lions fans.
