According to reports in The Sun on Sunday, West Ham United are considering making a summer move for Nice attacker Alassane Plea, but they could have to pay £25m to bring him to the Premier League.

The Irons moved a step closer to retaining their top flight spot for another season following their 1-1 draw against Stoke City at the London Stadium on Monday night, which took them to the 35-point mark with five matches remaining.

Manager David Moyes will already be thinking about the players he would like to sign if they do stay up, and the link to Plea, who has scored more Ligue 1 goals (14) than Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe this season, suggests that he wants to make improvements in the final third.

Meanwhile, their rivals from the capital, Tottenham Hotspur, could be another club that are busy in the transfer market this summer as they look to once again challenge for the Premier League title after falling short this term, as well as trying to advance further than the last 16 in the Champions League having been eliminated by Juventus at that stage this season.

With Toby Alderweireld, Fernando Llorente and Mousa Dembele potentially on their way out and the north London outfit said to be ready to listen to acceptable offers for the latter, Mauricio Pochettino could be looking to strengthen in a number of areas throughout his team, and Plea should be on his radar.

Here are three reasons Tottenham must hijack West Ham's bid to sign the French forward…

With Vincent Janssen and now Fernando Llorente struggling to impress, Pochettino could spend a third consecutive summer looking for an attacker to provide decent competition for Kane and one that can perform when the England international isn’t available.

Llorente has failed to make the required impact and has come under huge critcism from his own fans on Twitter this year, and it would be no surprise to see him move on at the end of the season, leaving Tottenham once again searching for a new forward if Janssen doesn't end up returning to north London.

Bringing Plea to the club could be the answer, with the Frenchman showcasing the qualities that he has for Nice this term.

The 25-year-old has shown the ability that he has and the influence he can have in the final third on a consistent basis for Nice this season, leaving him with 19 goals and a further six assists in 41 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit.

As per WhoScored.com, he has also shown his ability at moving forwards with the ball and taking on defenders after successfully completing 71 of the 108 dribbles he has attempted, while his versatility means that as well as playing as a centre-forward he can also play out wide, too.

While Tottenham will be looking to improve their squad this summer, they still won't want to shell out huge transfer fees or go too far outside of their wage cap – if at all – and bringing Plea to the club shouldn't affect them either way.

The reported £25m price tag would be well within their budget for a player that has already scored 19 goals in all competitions this season, while they could certainly bring him in on a contract that would suit them.

For a versatile attacker like the 25-year-old is, it could be an opportunity that is too good to turn down.
