Three reasons Tottenham should hijack Chelsea’s bid to sign Leon Bailey
According to reports in the Daily Mail, Chelsea have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey after seeing a bid of £22m rejected.
The Blues are keen to bring the forward to Stamford Bridge having been impressed with the 20-year-old’s performances this season, and the Daily Mail says the west London outfit see the Jamaica international as a potential long-term replacement for Eden Hazard.
Bailey only signed for Leverkusen during the summer transfer window following an impressive spell with Belgian side Genk, and the report adds that the Bundesliga club don’t want to sell him, although they may find it difficult to turn down a significant cash offer.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur have recovered from a recent disappointing run where they took just two points from a possible 12 in the Premier League to record three successive wins in all competitions, and manager Mauricio Pochettino may already be thinking about potential additions he could make to his squad in the New Year.
Spurs will want to secure a top-four finish in the top flight as well as having a real go at winning the FA Cup and beating Juventus in the knockout stages of the Champions League, and bringing Bailey to Wembley could prove to be a shrewd move.
