As reported by The Daily Telegraph, Everton’s star attacking midfielder Ross Barkley is the subject of interest from Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window.
Ross Barkley hasn’t had the best of seasons in an Everton shirt, struggling to fully unlock his potential under new boss Ronald Koeman.
He got on the scoresheet on Friday night, scoring a vital late equaliser to salvage a point away to Hull City. That’s the kind of impact that Evertonians could end up missing if latest reports from the Telegraph are correct.
They report that Spurs are considering a January bid for the England international in order to steal a march on other interested parties, chief among them Arsenal and Chelsea.
With just 18 months left on his contract, he has the pick of his destination and could wait until the summer to make a decision regarding his future.
On his day, Ross Barkley is a exceptional footballer but he has struggled at times to show the consistency to play for one of the truly elite teams in the English Premier League. If he gets a move to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs, that’s what he’ll need to do.
He had a great season last year, scoring 12 goals in 38 appearances, an excellent return from midfield. However, this season he’s bagged just 4 in 22 and looked less influential overall on Everton’s performances. Whether that’s his ability or just a struggle to fit into Koeman’s plans is unclear.
At just 23 years of age, it is of course his potential that clubs would be buying and spells of inconsistency are to be expected when learning at this level.
A move to one of these London teams could revitalise his career and bring him to new heights which while obviously a good thing for him, could be massive for England too.
