Spurs take on the Blues on Saturday with both clubs occupying spots in the top four after impressive openings to their respective campaigns.
Holtby made a rare start during the White Hart Lane club’s Capital One Cup win over Aston Villa earlier this week, and was impressive throughout the tie.
Now, the German has called for Tottenham to put in a solid performance against Chelsea to prove that they are contenders for the title:
“We have to overcome Chelsea, not only to prove to the country we are title contenders but to prove it to ourselves as well,” he is quoted by The Express.
“I don’t want to put that word in the mouth, but we are aiming for very high things. We want to get in the top four and we want to qualify for the Champions League.
“We have the squad to do that, with our quality and depth. So this is a massive match for all the players and for our supporters as well.”
Spurs have made an excellent start to the season and currently occupy second position in the Premier League table.
Their only defeat came at the hands of table topping North London rivals Arsenal.
Andre Villas-Boas’ men are currently adapting to life without Gareth Bale and spent in excess of £100m on new players over the summer.
Can Tottenham overcome Chelsea? And are they really title contenders?
