The final Champions League spot this season could be decided by the clash at Chelsea, according to Andre Villas-Boas.
Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea are chasing two spots for next season’s elite competition and someone will miss out and face a difficult summer as a result.
Spurs have five games left – starting with Wigan away this coming weekend – but the clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, May 8 is looming large on the horizon.
Villas-Boas said: “We have to continue, Wigan away will be difficult because Wigan are fighting for survival. You just have to gather the most amount of points as possible – that is our objective.
“Our game against Chelsea could be the decider in the end.”
Tottenham have struggled in recent weeks with fatigue and injury brought on by the Europa League. They currently sit one point back of Chelsea and two back of Arsenal (who have played one more game). The return of Gareth Bale saw Spurs pick up a massive three points against Manchester City at the weekend.
Tottenham have extra incentive to qualify in an effort to keep hold of their star players.
Several reports have said that Gareth Bale is prepared to leave Tottenham if the team doesn’t qualify for next season’s Champions League.
