Tottenham boss eager to convince strike target

David Villa Barcelona forward

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has contacted Barcelona’s David Villa, according to The Times.

The Portuguese boss has telephoned the Spaniard, to convince him to move to the Premier League side.

Villa has been on international duty with Spain for the Confederations Cup, which ended last night after Brazil beat Villa’s side 3-0 in the final, but according to reports, AVB has tried to lure Villa to the club, using the attraction of living in London as an incentive.

The forward has also been linked with a move to Fiorentina, which has lead to AVB making the phone call. The Spurs boss, who is about to start his second season with the club, is eager to start Villa in a new 4-3-3 formation.

Villa, who is Spain’s record goalscorer, is set to leave the club this summer, after starting just 17 league matches for the La Liga champions. And after the club spent nearly £50million to bring Neymar to the Camp Nou, Villa’s place in the team is in even more doubt.

The forward, who scored 10 times for Barca from his total of 28 league appearances, is valued by the Spanish club at £12million, although Daniel Levy is hoping to sign the forward for just £8m.

AVB will want to sign Villa before his side’s opening match of the new season against Crystal Palace.

Will Villa join Tottenham? Would he be a good signing?
