Speaking in his post-match press conference, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho hailed Paulo Gazzaniga's performance against Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

What did he say?

Despite not being at their best at Molineux - the north London side took less than half the shots of their opponents - they managed to eke out a hard-fought win. An injury-time header from Jan Vertonghen gave the visitors all three points, but Mourinho was quick to praise the man who ensured Spurs stayed in the contest for the majority of the game.

As per Sofascore, Gazzaniga made four saves (with three of them coming inside the box) and also made one high claim as Spurs dealt with Wolves' threat on set-pieces well. And speaking after the game, Mourinho paid tribute to his number two goalkeeper.

He said (as quoted by Football.London): "Magic hands. Again it's important in that situation. My father played in this stadium against Wolves in the UEFA Cup as a goalkeeper. He was always telling me, a goalkeeper of a top team had to be different to the others because the goalkeeper of a top team doesn't have ten saves to make. You have one, but when the one comes the magic hands have to be there and Paulo did it for us.

"In the difficult period, 1-1, I know they are very strong mentally. They want to win, they want to win. They can tell you what they want but they want top four. They want top four. They have the potential for that so they wanted to win the game. They were not happy with the draw. It was very important for Paulo and for us that save and then we put ourselves in a position where we could win the game."

Redemption

Just a week after coming under criticism from sections of the Spurs support for his performance in the defeat to Manchester United, Gazzaniga achieved a little redemption on Sunday afternoon. In truly awful weather conditions that makes life that much more difficult for goalkeepers, the Argentine was an assured presence in between the sticks for the north Londoners.

And with Hugo Lloris still out of action for the foreseeable future, the 27-year-old will be expected to keep Spurs in the hunt for the top four over the busy Christmas schedule with his displays in goal. If he can channel some of the confidence he will have gotten from the weekend, then there is no reason why he can't more than ably deputise for the Lilywhites' number one.

Meanwhile, Tottenham fans have reacted surprisingly to the news this man is back to full fitness.
