Tottenham have hit a rotten run of form and unfortunately for fans it is likely to continue if Mauricio Pochettino continues to show loyalty to underperforming players.

The Argentine has often been praised for the understanding he has of his players, and the success he has had in improving young players is evidence of how he uses his character to nurture talent and spread confidence throughout his squad.

However, it now seems Spurs have hit a roadblock, with several players allegedly unhappy with their current situation and growing tired of their manager's philosophy and demands, having spent many years playing under him.

As a result, it has contributed to a run of just 22 points from 20 league matches as well as heavy, embarrassing defeats to Bayern Munich and Brighton last week, but despite the poor run the same problems - and personnel - persist.

A particular issue currently is the defence, and since coming into the side after missing the season's opening Jan Vertonghen has played in a back four which has conceded 17 goals in seven games.

His partner, Toby Alderweireld, hasn't fared much better with an average of only 0.9 interceptions in the league, yet they both continue to feature under Pochettino.

With results not picking up the former Southampton manager must consider a change, as he is getting little return out of the loyalty he has shown thus far.

Christian Eriksen is another senior player who has failed to live up to his usual standards this term, with only one goal and one assist in 11 games, and his desire to leave could be having a negative effect on the dressing room.

It is, therefore, a key area of concern for the manager, so he must address the underperformance by dropping them from the starting line-up or by speaking individually with each player and asking them to repay the loyalty he has shown to them.

However, with no sign of an end to the trio's contract issues as things stand, it may be more realistic to expect the lacklustre performances to continue.
