Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez has emerged as one of Tottenham Hotspur‘s main transfer targets in January as Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino looks to raid his former club for the player.
The 25 year-old enjoyed the finest season of his career under the guidance of Pochettino last year, scoring 15 goals in 33 Premier League games for the Saints, and although he has been sidelined since April with a serious knee inury, Rodriguez is believed to be top of Pochettino’s transfer wishlist.
The England international has been valued at £20 million and current Southampton manager Ronald Koeman – who succeeded Pochettino at the South Coast club after the Argentinian was appointed as Spurs boss in the summer – is keen to do business, with Italian hitman Graziano Pelle thriving in Rodriguez’s absence.
The Saints’ phenomenal start to the season continued on Saturday after their 2-0 win over Leicester City saw them remain in 2nd place in the league table with 25 points.
Meanwhile, Tottenham sit in 9th place going into Sunday’s game against Stoke City.
