According to reports in The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are on a mission to land Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha in a cut-price £45m deal before the summer transfer window closes on August 9.

What's the word, then?

Wilfried Zaha celebrates scoring against West Brom

Well, The Sun report that Spurs' Premier League rivals Chelsea have seen a £30m plus midfielder Danny Drinkwater bid for the Ivory Coast international rejected, but they believe they can get him by adding £15m more than the Blues in add-ons, as well as the inclusion of a huge sell-on clause.

The Sun says that the north London outfit initially stepped back from attempting to sign the versatile attacker – who can play on the wing or as a striker as he showed for the Eagles earlier this year – having learned of his potential £70m price tag, believing that Aston Villa's Jack Grealish could be a more realistic target.

The report adds that the Championship man is valued at £40m however, meaning that chairman Daniel Levy has switched his attentions back to a big-money swoop for Zaha.

Would Zaha be a good signing for Spurs?

He certainly would be.

While the 25-year-old failed to make the grade at Manchester United previously, he has clearly matured and become more consistent and impactful since then, including playing a key role as Crystal Palace bounced back from losing their opening seven Premier League matches last term to survive with games still left to play.

Tottenham fans, some of whom can't decide whether they should splash out on a 25-year-old France star or not, are in disbelief that they are still yet to sign someone with just a week left of what has been their worst summer transfer window, and Levy must do everything he can to get a deal over the line for a player that can make all the difference in the final third on the rare occasion the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Harry Kane aren't on top form.
