In his detailed analysis for the BBC, former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas said that the north Londoners should hope to get £50m for Christian Eriksen this summer.

The Denmark international wants to leave the club and has just a year left on his contract, whilst Real Madrid, Juventus and Atletico Madrid have expressed an interest in him with the transfer window for European clubs remaining open until September 2nd.

What did Jenas say?

In his column for the BBC, Jenas wrote: "If they do get £50m, they will have done wonders - but any offers they get before the end of this month, when the transfer window closes in the rest of Europe, are likely to be a lot less than that."

They shouldn't sell him at all

Jenas does detail the importance of the former Ajax man and how crucial to Spurs he really is, but the bottom line is that he feels the club should cash in if an offer of £50m or above arrives.

Admittedly, that would be a great offer to receive given the circumstances with Eriksen's contract, but it would be a real kick in the teeth for Spurs in terms of what they're hoping to achieve.

You only need to look at how the 27-year-old transformed the game against Aston Villa last week to see how many points the Dane can win Spurs on his own, and after doing extremely well to sign Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, it would feel as if the club has taken two steps forward and a huge leap back if they cash in on Eriksen.

It's at the point where the player is more critical to the club than money would be.

Money won't help get crucial points when things aren't going to plan. Money isn't going to be the one creating chances and scoring goals if Lo Celso takes a while to adapt to life in the Premier League.

If Spurs sold Eriksen before the season even properly gets underway, then the north Londoners would just be making life harder for themselves on the pitch and their ambitions harder to reach.
