Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has been left “seething” after midfielder Victor Wanyama decided against moving to Club Brugge in the summer transfer window, per Football Insider.

What’s the word?

The Belgian side attempted to bring the Kenya international to the club but the deadline came and went on Monday, with Wanyama still in north London.

The report states that Levy had spent weeks attempting to facilitate Wanyama’s exit, with a deal agreed that would have seen Brugge pay £9m, with the potential to rise to £12m.

However, despite initially appearing prepared to make the move, the former Southampton midfielder had a change of heart and opted against the transfer.

Wanyama has yet to play for Spurs this season, though he was on the bench for the win over Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the season.

Bizarre

It feels strange that Wanyama has opted against a move that could have reignited his career.

The report states that he would have been forced to take a pay cut, as he currently earns £65,000-per-week at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Unless this is pure greed from the midfielder then this would appear to be the wrong decision.

Spurs have the likes of Eric Dier, Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks, who are all capable of playing in defensive midfield, and none of that trio have the same injury record as the Kenyan.

He is unlikely to gain many minutes in 2019/20; perhaps he is just happy to sit on the bench.
