Tottenham chasing Arsenal strike target

Tottenham are ready to go head-to-head with Italian side Napoli for the signature of Jackson Martinez, according to reports from Fichajes.

The Colombian forward has been one of European football’s most sought-after players for some time, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal having been linked with moves for his signature.

But now it’s believed to be Spurs at the front of the queue with Napoli, as Maurico Pochettino intensifies his striker search.

The Argentine is desperate to get in a player to guarantee his side goals, and has been attracted to Martinez’s record.

Since his 2012 move to Porto from Chiapas in Mexico during 2012, the South American has netted 51 times in 66 league outings.

Reports suggest that he has elected to make this his last season in Portugal, but Tottenham are keen to cut his stay at the Estadio do Dragao short with a January offer.

Pochettino has Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane to call upon as centre-forwards, but none of the trio have convinced the former Southampton man of their abilities since his arrival earlier this year.
