Tottenham enter race for Arsenal target

Liverpool's Luis Suarez

Tottenham have identified Liverpool forward Luis Suarez as a replacement for Gareth Bale, reports the Daily Star.

Should Spurs lose Bale to Real Madrid, they will try and sign the unsettled Uruguayan from Anfield.

Any move for Suarez will see Spurs compete with Premier League rivals Arsenal for the 26-year-old. The Gunners have had two bids turned down by Liverpool, as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Liverpool have repeatedly said that Suarez is not for sale, but Tottenham could be ready to test Liverpool’s hold of the Uruguayan by using part of the £87million they are set to receive from the sale of Gareth Bale. Spurs are desperate to get back in the Champions League and Daniel Levy knows he will need to bring in world-class players to replace the Welshman if they club want to play in the elite European competition.

However, with Suarez stating that he wants to play in Europe, Arsenal will favour their chances of signing the forward, who scored 23 league goals last season. The Gunners pipped Spurs to 4th place by one point back in May.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid had been linked with a move for Suarez in the past, however only Arsenal have made a public bid for the Reds’ star striker.

Who should Suarez join? Could Spurs really sign the Uruguyan?
