Tottenham are set to move for Paris St Germain midfielder Javier Pastore should Gareth Bale sign for Real Madrid, according to the Daily Star.

The Argentine cost the French club £36million from Palermo two years ago, and would demand a similar fee again were he to make the move to White Hart Lane.

Tottenham are in line to receive a world record bid for their Welsh star however, and have identified Pastore as the man they want to provide the goals and assists from midfield should Bale move on.

The club have so far made it adamant that Bale will not be sold, but reports in Spain suggest Real are set to come back with an incredible offer of £100million - an offer Tottenham would find near impossible to resist according to their former manager David Pleat.

"They were talking £50m, £60m earlier in the summer," Pleat said.

"This could rise to something crazy like £100m.

"At that stage, even Tottenham, who have resisted strongly, may have to look at it. How do you resist that type of money? Manchester United couldn't resist it for Ronaldo."

Argentine midfielder Pastore is capable of playing wide, through the middle or just behind the striker. He has not quite fulfilled his potential at Paris St Germain, with the French club likely to let him go for the right price.

Tottenham's director of football Franco Baldini is understood to have already made contact with PSG regarding a potential move for the player.
