Tottenham are eyeing a deal for French Under-20 international Samuel Umtiti although they face competition from rivals West Ham.
The Olympique Lyonnais defender is able to operate either at centre-back or as a left-back and his versatility and outstanding performances for his club this season have certainly not gone unnoticed.
Umtiti first came to Spurs’ attention last month when he scored a stunning goal against them for the French outfit in a Europa League tie at White Hart Lane.
The 19-year-old is one of the players under consideration to replace Benoit Assou-Ekotto who is being tipped for a move away from Tottenham in the summer with boss Andre Villas-Boas actively in the market for a new full-back.
A switch to North London for the Cameroon-born stopper would see him link up with his former team-mate Hugo Lloris although he won’t come cheap as Lyon value him around the £10m mark.
AC Milan are also believed to be interested in Umtiti, although sources in France claim the player would prefer a move to England.
