Tottenham Hotspur fans have once again been on social media calling for Toby Alderweireld to sign a new long-term contract with the club.
Alderweireld will see his current deal with Tottenham expire this summer.
Spurs are able to trigger a one-year extension on the defender’s deal, although the problem with that is a £25m release clause would then come into effect for the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.
The centre-back was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, but ultimately remained in London.
Alderweireld has been an ever-present for Tottenham since sitting on the bench against Newcastle United on the opening weekend of this season, and he was again in impressive form in Tuesday’s Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven.
The 29-year-old – currently valued at £36m by Transfermarkt – took to social media in the aftermath of his team’s 2-1 win, and that led to a host of Tottenham fans calling for him to sign a new contract.
