Tottenham fans aren’t happy with Mauricio Pochettino, after the boss defended Hugo Lloris in his pre-Brighton press conference.

You’d be hard pushed to find a player in the Premier League more loved by their fans, but Hugo Lloris has drawn some criticism for his recent performances.

The 31 year-old has been an absolute brick wall for Spurs since his move from Lyon in 2012, and has made over 200 league appearances in North London.

Lloris has been there through thick and thin, but in the last 18 months his performances have just dropped off a little, and fans were annoyed by his mistakes against Chelsea and Stoke.

The Frenchman is second in the league for errors leading directly to goals, with Arsenal’s Petr Cech leading the way.

He was at fault again on Saturday, as his flying slide tackle allowed Ilkay Gundogan to double Manchester City’s Wembley lead from the penalty spot.

Although replays revealed the foul was outside the box, it was a foolish tackle from Lloris, but Pochettino insists he is still one of the best.

"I am a very lucky person because I am not focused on social media and all that happens around. For me Hugo Lloris is, from the day that we arrive here, improving every season. He is one of the best keepers in the world," the manager said.
