On Saturday, Liverpool put in a dominant display as they overcame Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley Stadium thanks to goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino. Despite a late consolation from Erik Lamela, Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side never looked like getting anything out of the match.

At the heart of the North London club’s abject performance was Eric Dier, whose most memorable contribution to proceedings was gifting the ball to Mohamed Salah in the first half, allowing the Egyptian to race through on goal.

In his 82 minutes on the pitch, Dier registered a pass completion rating of just 82% and could only muster a single successful tackle. All in all, this was not a performance befitting someone who captained England earlier in the very same week.
