According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy will not face punishment from the Football Association despite his bizarre altercation with Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela on Monday night.

Mendy was shielding the ball under pressure from Lamela in the latter stages of the Premier League match when the defender appeared to throw a punch towards the Argentine.

However, it is being reported that referee Kevin Friend saw the incident, and Mendy will therefore not face a charge of retrospective ban as it was not included in the post-match report.

The Tottenham fans have been reacting to the developments on social media, and it would be fair to say that the news has not gone down very well at all.

Indeed, it did appear that Mendy wanted to strike Lamela, but the Frenchman was luckily absolutely nowhere near his target.

Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal of the match at Wembley as Man City triumphed, and the news regarding Mendy has given the Tottenham fans something else to be frustrated about.
