Having arrived from AS Roma in the summer of 2013, Erik Lamela has had an inconsistent career at Tottenham. The 27-year-old has found himself in and out of the side in recent seasons, struggling to nail down a first-team spot on a regular basis.
However, following the absences of Dele Alli and Son Heung-min in the opening weeks of the season, Lamela has featured from the off against Aston Villa and Manchester City.
After an uneventful display against Dean Smith’s side, the attacker came back to form with a fine strike against the Premier League champions at the Etihad on Saturday. He then provided the second goal with a delicious corner kick.
However, his goal-scoring performance was deemed not quite enough for him to earn a call-up to the Argentina national squad for the upcoming international break.

Following confirmation of Lamela’s snub, Spurs fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the decision.
Many supporters of the north London side revealed their shock at seeing the Argentine miss out, and labelled it a mistake on the national team’s part.
Some however opted to take a more positive outlook on things, and suggested Lamela could now remain at Tottenham “fit and healthy”.
Check out some of the reaction of Spurs fans below:
In form player @ErikLamela has NOT been called up to the Argentina squad. Let’s keep him fit & healthy here.

Mistake not to have Lamela on that list.

fuming lamela isn’t there, could be monumental if he goes back in to that squad, but if this keeps him fit then so be it

Harsh on Erik Lamela, man’s been on fire since the start of preseason. Just means he can stay fit at Hotspur Way tho

Lamela aught to be in the squad, but I’m happy that he’s not. I want him to stay as healthy as possible and playing in a friendly can jeopardize his health.
