Tottenham fans hope for the best as Kovacic tell Real Madrid he wants to leave

Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Mateo Kovacic has told Real Madrid he wants to leave the club this summer, according to Spanish news outlet Marca.

The 24-year-old central midfielder has been at the Bernabeu since signing from Inter Milan in 2015 but has understandably found it difficult to displace the imperious Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in midfield.

He has made 73 league appearances for Real Madrid, half of which have come via the bench.

The technically gifted Croatian, who was part of his his country’s fine World Cup campaign, is a reported target for Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, but Tottenham will be hoping to steal a march on their Premier League rivals.

With Mousa Dembele looking like he could be leaving White Hart Lane this summer, Mauricio Pochettino will want reinforcements in midfield and Kovacic could certainly do that job if Spurs pay something close to his £27million valuation on Transfermarkt.

Spurs fans have been reacting to the news that Kovacic has reportedly requested to leave Real Madrid and it’s clear they want to see the player lining up for them next season.
