Tottenham put their name in the hat for Saturday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round draw but did not make things easy for themselves playing in unfamiliar surroundings at the home of League Two side MK Dons.

The Lilywhites fell behind against Watford before two late goals from Dele Alli and Erik Lamela turned the tie on its head, although the ten-man Hornets took the game all the way to penalties following Etienne Capoue’s dramatic equaliser against his former side.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men emerged triumphant from the shoot-out though and goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, who recently replaced Michel Vorm in the starting line-up in the Premier League, was the hero as he saved two penalties.

The 26-year-old Argentine has earned limited opportunities since joining Spurs in 2017, only accumulating two Premier League appearances during his spell so far, but his performance has led some to suggest he could compete with Hugo Lloris for a first-team spot.
