Jan Vertonghen enjoyed perhaps the finest performance of his Tottenham Hotspur career against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Belgium international, usually a centre-back, was deployed at left wing-back by Mauricio Pochettino after injury ruled Danny Rose out of the game.

And the defender, who has been at Spurs since 2012, excelled in the role, laying on a brilliant assist to Son Heung-Min before scoring the second goal himself in a 3-0 thumping of the Bundesliga giants.

Vertonghen has played at left-back once before in 2018-19, in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United at Wembley.

But the 31-year-old was peerless against the German side, who were soundly beaten at Wembley, with Fernando Llorente coming off the bench to score the third goal to all but end the tie.

The performance from Spurs was perhaps all the more impressive given their injury list - along with Rose, both striker Harry Kane and midfielder Dele Alli were absent through injury.

And fans were left in awe of Vertonghen's performance, taking to Twitter to lavish praise on the star. Take a look at some of the best reaction below...
