Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri told Sport Medisaset following his side’s 1-0 win against Lazio on Saturday that their opponents then defend better than Tottenham Hotspur do ahead of the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at Wembley on Wednesday night, and Spurs fans have been quick to react.
The 50-year-old told Sport Mediaset: “Tottenham are different compared to Lazio, they don’t defend as well. This win certainly helps our confidence as we will have to be good and lucky on Wednesday.”
Allegri’s comments are understandable in a way considering the north London outfit found themselves 2-0 down after just nine minutes in the first leg, while they could have been 3-1 behind at the break had Gonzalo Higuian scored from the penalty spot following Serge Aurier’s clumsy foul.
However, when directly comparing Lazio and Mauricio Pochettino’s men in their respective top flights, Lazio have conceded 34 goals in 27 Serie A matches compared to 24 in 29 for Spurs in the Premier League.
Tottenham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on Allegri’s comments, and while one said “we’ll see on Wednesday”, another said “this guy has no respect”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Well, after the first leg he does have a point. At least he didn't mention the clown music.

We're missing our best defensive player and we are still better than lazio in goals allowed by a pretty big margin too.

Well we've conceded less and played more games than Lazio. Unless he means it in the sense that we defend less than them and attack more, he's off his head.
