Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger announced on Friday that he would be stepping down at the end of the season after 22 years in charge of the club, and fans of north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur were quick to have their say on the major managerial news.

The Frenchman has decided to bring his long reign to an end following another disappointing campaign in which they look set to miss out on qualification for the Champions League through the Premier League – where they are yet to pick up a single away point in 2018 – although they can still make it by winning the Europa League.

Spurs finished above their local rivals in the league for the first time during Wenger's reign with the Gunners as they finished second last term, and they need just two points from their final four top flight fixtures this season to ensure they do it again.

Tottenham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the 68-year-old's exit, and while one said they were "heartbroken" in relation to the fact that Arsenal may now improve without him, another said they were "absolutely devastated".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
