Loads of Tottenham fans have been giving their verdict on the derby day defeat, and they’re in complete agreement with Alan Shearer’s scathing assessment of one major decision.

Tottenham fell to a 4-2 defeat at the Emirates on Sunday, ruining what was almost a perfect week despite difficult fixtures.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were superb against Chelsea, but didn’t come out with the same intensity on Sunday, and the Gunners were perhaps unlucky not to win by even more.

The Tottenham defence was all over the place at times, and Shearer simply could not believe the decision to start Juan Foyth over Toby Alderweireld.

“You can't leave your best defender out in your most important game against your rivals,” he said on BBC’s Match of the Day 2.

“Without sounding disrespectful to Southampton but if he has to leave him out leave him out for that game.

“If you are Aubameyang and you see that Tottenham team sheet who do you want to play against - Foyth or Alderweireld?”

“He is their best defender, their leader and their organiser at the back. He pulls everyone together. They were all over the place today. It is a poor mistake.”

It’s hard to disagree with the ex-Newcastle striker, as Foyth really did have a nightmare performance.

The youngster was caught napping on the ball for the third Arsenal goal, and Jan Vertonghen didn’t exactly cover himself in glory either.

The fixture list over Christmas is truly crazy, so key players will certainly have to be rotated, but fans are all agreeing with Shearer on this one.
