One of the biggest stories of the north London derby happened before a ball was even kicked, after Mauricio Pochettino opted to leave out Toby Alderweireld in favour of Juan Foyth.
The decision proved to be a costly one, as the young Argentine was caught in possession with the scores at 2-2, and had to watch on in horror as Alexandre Lacazette took advantage and scored the Gunners third – a goal which appeared to take the game away from Spurs.
Given Alderweireld’s reputation as one of the best defenders in the world, it was extremely surprising for the 20-year-old to be named alongside Jan Vertonghen instead of the Belgian.
Pochettino has a lot of faith in his fellow countryman, as shown by his decision to throw him in at the deep end, but it was one that did not pay off, and Spurs fans are not happy.
Let’s take a look at some of the best tweets…
Questioned why Foyth was in over Alderweireld when I saw the line up. The result and Foyth's mistake justified my doubt. Gutting result but we're in a top 4 fight not a title fight and we're still well in it #COYS

With experience Foyth takes the yellow for mistake and Lacazette don’t get near goal scoring position! Key parts in play sometimes a yellow can be a good booking, thought Aurier is unreliable, never know what your gonna get! #THFC

Imo Foyth should have gone on loan to a championship club…yes he is one for the future but has made too many mistakes…poch needs to take some blame for this #COYS

That is why you play Toby and not Foyth. Foyth has got a mistake I’m in him. He ain’t ready to be starting big games like this. Ridiculous mistake

Sorry, he’s going to be a great player one day, but starting Foyth in this game was a massive mistake. Not experienced enough and this could kill his confidence.

Toby not playing was a huge mistake – Foyth has done well but Alderweireld not playing has definitely given Arsenal the initiative to really get at us, and it’s worked
