Tottenham fans react to news Eric Dier will captain England against Germany

The official England Twitter account posted on Thursday that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier would captain his country for the first time in their international friendly against Germany at Wembley on Friday night, and Spurs fans were quick to have their say on the news.

The 23-year-old will only be picking up his 22nd cap for his nation, but Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has decided that he will lead the team out at Wembley following another impressive season for his club side and with teammate Harry Kane having pulled out of the squad through injury.

Dier certainly has good memories of facing the current world champions after scoring the winning goal when England beat Germany 3-2 in a friendly in Berlin in March.

Tottenham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the announcement, and while one said “I knew this would happen”, another said there “wouldn’t be anyone else who deserves it more”.
