According to Italian reports, Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Napoli forward Dries Mertens, and fans would absolutely love to swoop for the striker.

According to Area Napoli, the Serie A club are looking to cash in on Mertens this summer, and Spurs have been offered the chance to swoop him up.

The Belgian forward turned 31 this summer, and has two years left on his Napoli contract.

Mauricio Pochettino looks set to add another attacker to his ranks this summer, and so far his attempts to find a support striker for Harry Kane have been unsuccessful.

Kane is of course nailed on to start whenever fit, so Spurs need someone who isn’t afraid to play second fiddle to the talisman. This is where Mertens could be the perfect fit, as his ability to play in any of the attacking positions behind Kane means he would get time on the pitch either way.

The speedy Belgian spent the bulk of his career on the wing, but transformed into one of Europe’s most lethal strikers under Maurizio Sarri in the last couple of seasons.

Valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, his versatility would give Pochettino a lot of options, and fans are loving the links to the man who has grabbed an incredible 56 goals and 27 assists in all competitions across the last two seasons.
