Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that the north London derby on March 2 will take place at Wembley.

The club have yet to carry out the necessary fire detection and alarm system testing to obtain a safety certificate at their new stadium, which continues to be under construction.

And they have subsequently announced that the derby encounter will be played at the national stadium instead of the new White Hart Lane. Spurs have been playing all home games at Wembley since the beginning of last season.

Nevertheless, the London Evening Standard report that the stadium could be opened in March, despite numerous delays.

The report claims that the north London outfit have instead turned their attention to the game against Crystal Palace, which takes place on March 17, as a potential curtain-raiser.

Many Spurs fans have expressed their disappointment at the latest news update, although many have accepted the update with a degree of inevitability.
