Rather than begging him to sign a contract as they have done many times previously, some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have sent a harsh reminder to defender Toby Alderweireld following his positive tweet after a successful international break with Belgium.

The Red Devils recorded successive wins against San Marino and Kazakhstan in their EURO 2020 qualifiers, coming out on top by an aggregate of 11-0 following 9-0 and 2-0 victories respectively.

The 30-year-old was quick to post the achievements on social media, but he was quickly given a reality check by Spurs supporters replying to the post.

Of course, the centre-back went into representing his country on the back of successive club defeats with Mauricio Pochettino's men, conceding 10 goals in two matches against Bayern Munich and Brighton and Hove Albion.

While the Belgian was clearly happy with the goals, wins and clean sheets for Belgium over the weekend, fans of the north London were not so impressed.

One individual reminded him that the matches were only against San Marino and Kazakhstan – two minnows in European football terms – while another said "2 games. 10 goals… no clean sheets", in relation to his latest record with Tottenham.
