Tottenham Hotspur recovered from a disastrous start in their Champions League knockout tie against Juventus in Turin on Tuesday night to secure a 2-2 draw, but Spurs fans were left unimpressed with Serge Aurier’s performance at right-back and are demanding more from him.
The summer signing from Paris Saint-Germain, rated at £18m according to Transfermarkt, started ahead of Kieran Trippier at full-back, but he looked shaky throughout the first half as his side quickly found themselves 2-0 behind.
Things got worse for the 25-year-old when he gave away a penalty on the stroke of half-time after he brought down Douglas Costa in the area, but fortunately for him Gonzalo Higuain missed the chance to get his hat-trick.
Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the Ivory Coast international via social media, and while one said “another terrible performance from him last night”, another labelled him as “a total liability”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
It gave me flashbacks of Walker in his early days ?

Seeing why PSG let him go. Can't be trusted in the big games

This guys is such a liability. He makes stupid, rash decisions and will cost us big time soon

Is it bad I’m happy Aurier won’t be playing the return leg? Thought he looked a liability last night & a mistake waiting to happen – needs to work on his rashness. Trippier has his flaws, but we can rely on him. Not to mention, his crossing is immense most of the time.

Aurier was woeful. How could Poch keep him on when he was on a yellow, and had nothing going forwards. Should have put on Trips at 60mins #COYS

I’d like to have a word with any spurs supporters still think Aurier should be anywhere near the starting 11 of this squad. He’s just not good enough.
